maiden braids...

i love my long hair. really i do. but some days, i'm just not in the mood to deal with styling it.  or having it in my face all day.  i had one of those days last week. the great thing about braids is they hold the hair back all day, and it looks like it took a lot of time and effort to do your hair. actuality? it takes just a few short minutes.

i know, mine are pretty messy.  this is the result of a monday though.  they were much neater at the start of the day.  the tricky part to a wrap around braid is when you have to switch hands.  my tendancy is to braid backwards, which ends up unbraiding what i've already done.  i'm better at braiding from left to right, with my right hand as being the 'lead hand'.  my trick? i have a full length mirror in my closet, so i open my door and angle it so i can see my reflection from my dresser mirror.  that way i have a mirror in the front and back.  once i've braided as far as i can and it's time to switch, instead of actually switching, i just hold it with my other hand, then reach over with my original braiding hand and continue.

spring is in the air...

... and inspiring my outfits!

after reorganizing my closet yesterday, i realized there's quite a few numbers i haven't worn lately, due to them being too spring/summery.  this dress is one of them.  i did wear it with a cream cardigan too work, but it was so nice out, i decided to go for some sleeveless shots!

i paired it with a scarf as a headband, which i've noticed a few of my favourite bloggers sporting for the spring season.  i love the 50s/60s feel of it...
however, being in a place where fashion is very cookie cutter, of course i ended up with some opinions on today's outfit...

one being that i 'look like the pancake lady'... umm, aunt jemima ties her scarf very 40s style. i didn't take the comment to heart, as i'm quite used to less-than-flattering comments on my attire, but it wsan't exactly what i'd call a compliment.  either way, i still love my head scarf.

to have and to hold...

have you had a chance to check out ruche's new bridal line??
to.die.for.

alas, i'm not getting married.  although i'm tempted to find myself a groom just so i can sport one of those pretty dresses.

however... my cousin IS getting married in june, and i think this just may be my wedding guest outfit.

what do you think??

.....

if you haven't already, take a gander at ruche's "to have and to hold"

:)

inspiration followed through...

in one of my posts from last week, you'll notice i posted some pictures of zooey in some of my favourite outfits/styles that she sports.  one was a coral shirt dress and green cardigan, which i believe is an outfit from tomorrow's episode of the new girl...

here's my version!  a coral peter pan pleated dress and a forest cardi...
of course, even with our spring temperatures this week, it's still canada, and tights are still a must...
so i mixed it with black tights and black shoes, a zooey staple.

and with the peter pan collar, i chose my peter pan silhouette necklace from etsy.

i loved this outfit, these colours, the flowiness... it was perfect for a springish day!

a la zooey style... i left out the bowler hat, although i was desperately wanting a green one for st patricks day celebrations on saturday! which, by the way, were pretty fun.  i somehow ended up in a scrabble game at the pub, with two buddies.  i won, and while i did not receive the highest scoring word ('versify' for a whopping 66 points), i was rather proud of my two letter move resulting in 42 points.

while i left out the bowler hat, i'll definitely take a mr. monogamy when i find one.

the kind that twirls...

today was just one of those great days.

the kind of day that has sunshine, warm weather before spring has officially arrived. the kind where you have on an outfit that you just feel amazing in, because it's comfortable and completely you.
one of those days where people give you compliments that are genuine and you appreciate.

one of those days where you feel like you really accomplish some work (it's been one of those weeks actually).

just one of those days that make you want to twirl, and you happen to be wearing a twirly dress!

i know right? woah legs!  and i'm very short skirt shy.  however, hiding under tights tend to make me a bit more secure and brave. plus it was just such a fabulous twirl!

i'm crazy over this skater dress.  i really (REALLY) want a red skater dress.  i have one that i had made for christmas in a forest green, but it's longer, a bit pouffier, and it really feels less casual than an every day skater dress.

so when melissa was kind enough to lend me her new skater dress, i was so excited.  i really need to grab a few of these, because they're just the best things to wear.  i highly recommend them!

sunshine happy people...

oh daylight savings time... sometimes, i curse you.  that one hour of time change completely throws off my sleep pattern.  but it also meant that it was still incredibly sunny when i got home from work tonight... with lots of time for photos!  that also means more time for outdoor activities.

today was mild out... don't be fooled, it wasn't actually nice enough for no jacket.  but i was so excited for a nice, sunny day, that i just had to take outdoor pictures.  not to mention i love with the wind flutters a flowy skirt.

i wish i had more exciting monday news to share.  alas, i do not.  today was a very busy, productive work day.  i left feeling like i accomplished everything i hoped to today.  a rare occasion, to be sure.
i was hoping to snowshoe, with this sun and warm weather... but no one was available to come with me, and i'm really not brave enough to venture out alone.

happy monday to ye!

my fashion icon...

zooey deschanel.  this girl's style has 'me' written all over it.  every time i see her, whether in a movie, in her tv show 'the new girl', or just photos of her wandering around, i practically die inside wanting her outfit.

i have to say, my 'obsession' started from her movie '500 days of summer'... if i could own every outfit she wore, i'd be set.  i spent so many hours on google images looking through her outfit pictures from that movie, drawing inspiration.  especially this one, of her with shorts and tights.  it was my inspiration for my first 'shorts & tights' attempt with a romper i bought 2 years ago.

from search for 'zooey & shorts', i came across my next love-outfit.  mint cardi and shoes, with shorts.  it coincided with my mint obsession for the past few years.  not to mention her love of shorts with tights, and plaid.

these two dresses... what i consider to be 'the perfect mad-men party dress' and 'the perfect red skater dress'.  my closet will forever be incomplete so long as i do not own dresses that fit in this category.  my cousin is getting married in june, and i'm really hoping to find my mad men party dress for it.  the red skater dress is the perfect everyday dress, easy to dress up or down!

cardis, dresses, and pleats... need i say more?  i've recently claimed melissa's green cardigan, and i put in a subtle hint for her coral dress as well.  hopefully it looks as good on me as it does on zooey!

cambridge satchel!! i was beyond excited to discover my love for this item before even seeing this photo.

plaid/tartan.  it's in my scottish genes.

and finally, her perfect skirt & blouse combos.  love them, from her lots-of-layers looks to her simpley-stated ones.

zooey, you are my fashion icon.
