Wedding Wednesday: Eight

As mentioned in Monday's post, today is your first glimpse into some of my wedding decor, with this simple do-it-yourself project.  As you're (probably) all aware, I love teacups. Naturally, I had to find a way to incorporate them into the decor.  I opted for some teacup candles.  Such an easy wedding diy! First up, find yourself some pretty teacups! I found six.

Next, you'll need some candle wax. I bought two of these boxes of soy candle wax from Michael's, along with a box of wick's, and some blocks of candle dye.

Put some wax in a heatable glass dish. I used a pyrex measuring cup. Boil some water in a shallow pot (you want to be able to pick up the glass out of the pot easily once it's melted).  While the wax is melting, place your wicks in your teacups and use brochette skewers to hold the wicks in place. I didn't have any, so I used chopsticks instead.  Tape the wick to the sticks to keep them in place.

Once the wax starts to melt, cut a small amount of the dye blocks and add to the melted wax. The dye is quite potent, similar to food colouring, so remember that a little goes a looooong way! Also keep in mind that when melted, the colour will be dark/bright, but once the wax hardens it will be much lighter!

Once the wax is all coloured and melted, pour it into the teacups, until it's about 1/4" from the rim.  Leave them there to harden... it takes a while, so go for a walk, have some coffee...

Once the wax is hard, cut the wick with sharp scissors. I cut mine to just above the chopsticks. Remove tape and chopsticks (gently), and admire your craftiness! As you can see from my picture below, while the melted wax looked dark green, they hardened to a pale minty green, which was exactly what I wanted!

  6. Beautiful! My husband makes teacup candles (I know it's soooo manly) but I love shopping for vintage tea cups and he likes melting down wax so it works out well. These are beautiful!
