Bachelorette: What I wore... almost.

Yesterday, as promised, I gave the details of my amazing bachelorette weekend.  Today, I decided to do a post on what I wore... almost. Although you've already seen some photos of my outfit, I felt it deserved a post of it's own. Why? Two reasons: 1. because I honestly just think this dress is so fabulous that it deserves an outfit post, and 2. because I almost didn't buy it, so I need to encourage anyone else who is hesitant to buy this dress!

 dress: lindy bop ophelia
belt: forever 21
lipstick: besame red hot red

As I mentioned in past posts, for my bachelorette, I was told to pack an ivory or white dress.  I didn't know how fancy or casual it should be, and that really was the reason I almost didn't buy this dress.  I assumed that we'd be hitting the town, and so something more casual / going-out-appropriate was what I was supposed to buy. Dilemma. Going-out clothes don't seem to appeal to me. I like fancy, flowy outfits. So, when I shared this dilemma with Melissa, she said "That dress is 'you', and that's what we want. You to be you. Buy it!"... and so I did.

This dress could have been my wedding dress. It's gorgeous on, flattering, and it twirls like a dream.  For the price, it's such a steal of a deal!! It is a satin-y fabric, but it has some stretch to it. It was the fabric that made me cautious of just how fancy it would be, but I felt comfortable wearing it. I suppose for someone who wears dresses every day, what's fancy to most is still in my comfort zone.

Confession: I didn't wear these shoes out. I ordered them for my wedding, but they weren't the right shade of mint. And they were too small (I'm not sure if it's the new B.A.I.T. line, or just this style, but they are much smaller than my other bait's of the same size).  I sent them back to exchange them, but they somehow got returned to me. Alas, they didn't arrive in time for my bachelorette, and they would've killed my feet. So I wore Melissa's mint Ida's (also too small, but worth the pain).

Reds and Whites...

Obviously, I love red. Love. Red dresses, red shoes, red lipstick, red hair! This dress is the best red polka dot dress. It's so flirty, and it feels like a dream on. It's so perfect on it's own that I feel minimally accessorizing it is the best option.  In fact, the last time I posted this dress, it was the exact same outfit as I'm posting now.

I've been putting off posting this dress again, because I recently ordered some new flowers for my hair. While they should be in soon, I just couldn't hold off posting this dress any longer.  It's been on my "planned" list for a few weeks, and it just seems like I pull it out every week for the purpose of posting it, and then I put it back. I just couldn't seem to do that this time.

While I've only posted this dress twice, I've actually worn it quite a few times. Especially over the holiday season. I wore it to the first Christmas Party that we hosted. It just seemed like the perfect hostess dress! It also comes in a black polka dot version, and I have to admit, I'm really tempted to order it. It's such an old glamorous feel when you wear it, I definitely think the black would give the same feel!

Cateyes and Red Lipstick...

I've never not had bangs. Ever. In all of my 32 years.  I always felt that by having a high forehead, I needed bangs.  In the past few years, I've gotten comfortable enough to braid them back, or swoop them to the side. Both of these styles took a lot of wearing them around the house first before I dared to wear them out in public.

dress: modcloth
cardigan: local shop
tights: joe fresh
shoes: spring shoes
belt: target

I suppose all of this look goes with what I said above: wearing it around the house to get used to the look before daring to wear it out in public.  Cat eyes with eyeliner, red lipstick... both took some getting used to.  I always wore very subtle makeup, neutrals, just to add to my natural look and nothing to bold.  Enter cat eyes and red lipstick, which practically goes hand in hand these days.

The Daintiest Shoes...

Mint, scalloped, eyelet, velvet... shoes! How dainty can one pair of shoes be? This dainty!! They are so amazingly feminine, you just can't help but feel extra girly in them.  They're definitely a date shoe... made to go from-the-house-to-the-car and sit in restaurants kinda shoes, as they are quite high.

dress: heart of haute (formerly heartbreaker fashion)
shoes: gift (modcloth)
necklace: sweet & lovely
lipstick: besame red hot red

Who doesn't need a good date-night-shoe though, right? While I may never be able to dance in them, I'll definitely feel special wearing them, making my legs feel extra long, making me feel extra tall. Every girl's dream, no?

1940s style...

I justified buying this dress in two ways: 1. I had a really bad work day my last week of work before my holidays, and retail therapy was a must, 2. I ordered it from a Canadian shop, so no duty!

I had my eye on this dress at modcloth for a while, and it went out of stock and didn't come back in my size.  I spotted it at Rowena, which is a Canadian site, and they had one (1!!!) left in my size.  It seemed a bit to fate-ish to not order it.  It's a hell bunny dress, and is just as amazing as my other hell bunny purchase.  It's a tad big, but I don't think I could have sized down.  I have to say, I feel so classy in it.  The fabric is very soft and flowy, and it flutters when I walk.

I also ordered some back-seam tights, which have been on my wishlist for some time to pair with Bernie Dexter dresses.  I ordered 2 pairs, just to make sure I had a spare when these get a run, which undoubtedly they will, as I'm pretty rough on my tights. Having three cuddly pets also results in ruined tights pretty regularly.
