Canadian Tropics...

If you're from Canada, you know we lots of cold temperatures and snow. You know that it means wearing tights all year round in some cases.  If you're not from Canada, I'm sure you at least notice the majority complaining, and making an escape down south at some point in the winter.  I don't normally complain. I love living here, and I love snow and winter. I don't mind bundling up in a goose feather parka and looking like a marshmallow. It's comfy, cozy, and warm to be honest.  However, this year is a little different...

Normally, our last snowstorm of the season is known as the St. Paddy's Day storm.  It's usually a doozy.  This year was no different. It was a doozy. However, it wasn't our last storm by a long shot.  Spring arrived quite late, and I'm not even convinced it actually did arrive at all.  Yes, in the past two weeks, we've had our normal mild temperatures and rain. The banks have snow have decreased in size. I can see patches of grass in some places.  It also snowed again this week.

Below is a photo of my backyard on Easter Monday. Yes, it's since gone down some. However, there is still a lot of snow there.  So, I decided to try to trick mother nature into thinking it's time for warmer weather to arrive. Flamingo diner style dress... orchids in my hair... peep toe shoes... pastels. Spring clothes. Now, if spring could only truly arrive.

And, because I have a sense of humour, here's a hilarious shot of me trying to run in front of the camera before the timer went off.

Flamingo-craze

Clearly, this is the week of my bait Dennise blue shoes. While it's purely coincidental, it's funny how that happens almost every week, having one of the items make an appearance almost each day.

I was almost tempted to purchase some pink shoes for this shirt... and for my flamingo dress... but I'm really liking this shirt with these blue shoes. I'm not sure how often I'd wear pink shoes, aside from with my flamingo outfits, so really, finding options already in my closet seems like the logical way to go. Pairing both outfits with orchids in my hair seems to be as pink as I can go anyhow.

When I was in New Orleans last fall, I found a string of lights with plastic flamingos over the bulbs... I debated buying them just because they were so kitch, but opted for the gingerbread houses instead for Christmas. I'm not regretting not buying them. I'm still facing my original problem: where I'd actually hang them... but they would be SO perfect with my flamingo outfits! Is it wrong that I'm tempted to buy plastic lawn flamingos??

Flamingos & Orchids...

When I ordered my flowers, I decided to order a set of three orchids. I've seen some vintage hair styles with either a row of three on one side, or two on one and one on the other, like I'm wearing here.

My initial outfit for these flowers was with my voodoo vixen dress, and maybe even my mint polka dot hell bunny dress... but then, I realized it would also look great with this flamingo dress.  For someone who's not much of a pink person, I'm slowly adding more of it as accent colours or accessories to my closet.

Jeans and Bettie Page Bangs...

Two 'new' things: Jeans (which I rarely wear) and Bettie Page bangs.  First up: Jeans. I have two go-to pairs of jeans. Both Karaoke Songstress Jeans from modcloth, in different colours. They're high waisted and stretchy... which just results in double comfiness. And perfect for on the motorcycle. I rarely wear jeans. As you know, I much prefer dresses, and they really are my everyday wear.  Except in the summer. I tend to wear jeans almost every day, because we spend so much time on the motorcycle.  However, I bought this shirt about  a year ago, and I was yet to post it on the blog! It's retro, and has flamingos! And it's SO flattering on.  I rarely wear it because 1. I rarely wear jeans, and 2. I didn't have any pink or blue shoes... which I felt it needed.  Well, I recently bought these bait shoes (half price!) so it was time to pull out this shirt! I definitely need to pick up a skirt for it though.

Next up: Bettie Page bangs. I was contemplating cutting them for a few weeks. Since the summer, I've been pin curling them, which resulted in them being well above my eyebrows, either curled under, or pushed to the side. So I decided to finally take the plunge and just cut them. I'm super loving the look, but I'm still getting the hang of styling them so they actually look straight. Overall, I think they'll be sticking around for a while :)

And on a side note: Wishing a huge happy birthday to the love of my life!! We celebrated with some good friends on the weekend, and we're off to celebrate with our families tonight. While I wish you the happiest of birthdays, know that I'm over the moon that I get to spend these milestones with you.

Christmas Flamingos

This dress was my Black Friday treat to myself.  I had my eye on it for a while, but it was pretty pricey.  It was on sale for less than half price, and I almost ordered it, but I hesitated.  I'm not sure why, but I'm glad that I did, because I ended up getting it for 50% off the already sale price!! What a bargain.

I'm not much of a pink person, unless it's more of a muted blush.  So I was iffy on the bright pink of the flamingos.  I'm surprised at just how much I love this dress.  It's so vibrant and fun.  I can't wait for summer to wear it (as I'm not sure how to style it for winter, especially with tights??).

I feel like I should be working in a 50s style ice cream parlor when I wear this dress, which in my opinion, is a good thing.  For that reason though, I'm not actually wearing it today, as it is Christmas Eve, and while a flamingo dress is incredibly fun, it's not very Holiday-ish.

Wishing everyone a very happy holiday week!! :)
