Wedding "Wednesday" - Three

Today's topic is the bridal tradition: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue.

"Something Old" represents the bride's link to her family and the past.
It could be a family photo tucked in to her bouquet, a hair comb owned by her grandmother...

"Something New" represents hope and good fortune for the future.
Most commonly, I've seen the bride's dress or wedding jewelry act as this item.

"Something Borrowed" is usually something that comes from a happily married woman and is thought to lend some of her good fortune to the new bride.

A lucky penny, jewelry, a veil from another bride's wedding day...

"Something Blue" is a symbol of love, fidelity and purity of the bride.
A garter, shoes, nail polish, something blue stitched on to her dress, something in her hair...

While I never knew the reasoning behind this tradition, it's a tradition I always loved to see at weddings.  It's something I'm hoping to have with me at mine.

  1. I really liked this tradition (all my items were pretty much as you described here- new dress, blue garter, with the same clip on earrings my mother and her mother both wore for their weddings for the borrowed and old).
