Is it just me...

...or did this dress shrink? When I put it on, it was a struggle to get it over my shoulders. Then it was rather snug... everywhere! I thought, "Oh crap, I gained weight."  But it hasn't been that long since I've worn it... and after the last time I wore it, I washed it. And there began my panic.

I thought, nope, I must be wrong. I haven't put it in the dryer once. So, I shrug it off... vouch to start exercising again, which I need to do anyhow. Put on my next outfit, expecting it also to be a big snug. Nope. Fits just as it always had. Crap. Really start to panic.  So, this is one of those "Thank goodness I blog and take photos of outfits" moments. I start looking back to former posts with this dress. Yup, it's shorter than the last time I posted it for sure. And then, that time was shorter than my first post with it.

I love this dress. Adore this dress, even. I'm sitting here right now wearing it, trying to stretch it out. I wonder if I wear it in the bath tub, like I did with these shoes, will it miraculously stretch??? I'm just kidding, I know it won't. But really, I'm quite upset at the moment, both at the fact that it shrunk while I've been washing it according to the instructions, AND the fact that it cost a small fortune and so I don't believe it should be shrinking on me!

T'is a sad, sad day.

1940s hair with a 1950s dress...

As I mentioned yesterday with pin curl styling, today's bangs are just another example of an easy way to switch up your hair with pin curls.  Just by pulling the bangs to the side, and securing them with a bobby pin, I have a completely different look than leaving my bangs down.

This dress would probably be easy to style with different colours... yellows, reds... But because there's so many shades of blues in it, I just always end up switching it up with different blues and teals.  I have a few dresses where this is the case, but I'm hoping to eventually get out of that bubble and start being able to style with colours that aren't already in a pattern.

1940s style...

I justified buying this dress in two ways: 1. I had a really bad work day my last week of work before my holidays, and retail therapy was a must, 2. I ordered it from a Canadian shop, so no duty!

I had my eye on this dress at modcloth for a while, and it went out of stock and didn't come back in my size.  I spotted it at Rowena, which is a Canadian site, and they had one (1!!!) left in my size.  It seemed a bit to fate-ish to not order it.  It's a hell bunny dress, and is just as amazing as my other hell bunny purchase.  It's a tad big, but I don't think I could have sized down.  I have to say, I feel so classy in it.  The fabric is very soft and flowy, and it flutters when I walk.

I also ordered some back-seam tights, which have been on my wishlist for some time to pair with Bernie Dexter dresses.  I ordered 2 pairs, just to make sure I had a spare when these get a run, which undoubtedly they will, as I'm pretty rough on my tights. Having three cuddly pets also results in ruined tights pretty regularly.

if you're a bird, i'm a bird...

i stumbled upon this dress a few weeks ago, and my first thought was how it reminded me of something Ally would wear in The Notebook.  i think it's for that reason that i wanted it so badly.  not to mention that i love the style from the 30s and 40s.  i held off buying it, because it's from the UK, and the shipping was pretty pricey.  not to mention i already have two (1, 2) red and white polka dot dresses in my closet.  i even tried to convince myself to buy the black one instead... but it just didn't have that 'ally' style to it that appealed to me instantly.

on another note, i have a work event coming up this month.  i had ordered a blue one shoulder maxi dress for the event, thinking it would be appropriate. and it was. but man, was it ever not 'me'.  i just felt so out of place in it.  so, i sent that back. that meant i needed to find something relatively quickly, that i knew would be my style, since i wouldn't have time to exchange it or replace it.  i thought a black swing dress would do the trick.  so after looking online, i found one for a great price.  from the same brand as this dress! perfect. i can order both dresses without the cost of shipping increasing (i swear, the black dress really was a great price!).  and so, that's how i came to get this dress in my hands.

this dress is so comfortable.  the fabric is so smooth, and it just falls so nicely from the hips.  it's one of those dresses that you feel great in, both because of the look and the comfort of it.  and one can never have too many red and white polka dot dresses, am i right?? ;)
