bluberry pumpkin...

fall is at it's peak here, with the trees all turning gold, brown and red, and the leaves starting to fall. it's my favourite time of year... the colours, the sound of the leaves crunching beneath my feet, the crispness in the air. although it's abnormally warm for october, it still cools off in the morning and at night.  today i was feeling especially fall-ish in this outfit, which reminds me of blueberries and pumpkins.

as soon as the air starts to cool down and fall is in the air, i'm reminded of random walks, window shopping, and hot apple or cranberry ciders. while i no longer live in a city, i still enjoy a hot cider, while sitting in my porch in my rocking chair, just admiring the changing leaves outside.  times may change, but passions find a way to evolve with you.

and these tights? they're the ones i wore here, and found them so bright that i was tempted to retire them. now, with this dress that has an accent of the same shade of orange in it, they just seem to blend. sometimes you really just need the perfect dress for tights.  i also felt that they matched the shade of my hair (which has drastically faded, but i'm liking the faded tone as well), mango intense copper.

as you can see below, dominic and hendrix enjoy the coolness outside, taking the opportunity to run in the fallen leaves.  these photos are so appropriate, as hendrix is dominic's shadow.

officially autumn...

the weather lately has been so sporadic.  anywhere from regular seasonal temperatures, requiring a sweater and tights, to super hot summer weather, and down to frost warnings at night.  i've been leaving in the morning with a fall coat, only to come home and change into shorts. it makes planning outfits rather challenging.

today it stayed fairly cool, which i love. brisk, autumn days are my favourite, with the excitement of added accessories and lots of layers.  the dress i ordered from modcloth arrived last week, and i've been looking forward to wearing it.  i kept trying to hold off until it was a bit more autumny, with more leaves changing colours... but i just couldn't wait. the arrival of the dress and my wool hat within days of each other was just perfect.

it was tempting to wear my red riding hood tights with this outfit, but not very work appropriate.  i think i push my limits as it is, and tights with characters on them may be just too much.  some things are fun to save only for play, right?

Remixing... part 2...

as with my last post, this is another remix, but based on dresses (the first to come)...

one problem i face working in an office environment is having office appropriate outfits, but still in the style that i like... i don't actually buy 'work clothes'... my clothes are all every day pieces.

being 5'6" with a 33" inseam, sometimes i'm borderline with the length.  i find tights help with this problem, as they cover up the legs.

in my first look, i'm wearing the woodbine floral dress from ruche.  i love it, but it's rather low cut and just borders my comfortable length.  the first time i wore it, i wore a tank under, but i didn't find it complimented the dress at all.  being that it's a floral multi-colour pattern, i decided to try pulling from those colours.  it's shown with two different pussy-bow blouses under, which i think is a perfect way to dress up a more casual dress.  having the sleeves peak out also add some interest to it.  in the first outfit, because i chose a bolder colour for the blouse, i stuck with very neutral tights.  in the second, i flipped it.

my second remix is of the dover shift dress, again from ruche.  the first look is as it appeared in their lookbook, with a floral scarf and tights.  while i love this look, it's a bit too spring/summer for the winter seasons for my liking.  in the second photo, i kept the scarf to add a bit of pattern, but opted for khaki tights and a cream cardi, keeping the whole look very subtle.  in the third, i wore it as a layering piece.  with a sweater dress over, the lace detail of the dress just peaks out.  for a bolder statement, i opted for teal tights.

happy remixing!

substitute jeans...

velvet & pants.  two words i never thought i would combine into one item!  but here i am, wearing velvet pants, and loving them!  this is one of my current favourite outfits.  i have a hard time wearing skinny 'jeans' as i find they can easily point out all of the not-so-flattering body parts that you'd rather people didn't notice.

however, combined with a flowy top and heels, skinny's can become flattering! or, more flattering anyway.  add in the lace jacket, and i get a more feminine look that i'm more comfortable in.  this has become a staple 'casual friday' office outfit for me.  while yes, we're allowed to wear jeans, sometimes we have meetings, and it's just not a jeans appropriate day.  these are the perfect substitute.

     blouse, jacket, pants, shoes: ruche

.....

i'm pretty sure that if not for ruche, i'd be walking around naked.  they have taken over my closet.
no complaints.

when it's warm outside, i've got the month of january...

so, does anyone else find this weather a tad bit intimidating?? i'm not a fan of this wonky weather... it's warm, it's freezing, there's crazy wind chills, -30s temperatures, barely any snow, a snow storm, freezing weather, then rain and + temps?? what? this is NOT typical eastern canada weather in january.

i'm a true blood canadian.  i like winter.  i like snow.  i like tooques, and scarves, and i have several parkas and coats and a snow suit to play in the snow.  but the fact that i love winter isn't even the reason this is bothersome to me.  i feel like mother nature is rebelling.  it seems like these changes are pretty drastic, and not happening over millions of years, but just a few...

not to mention, for those of you who don't get snow... snow + rain + warm temperatures + back to cold temperatures... that equals ICE.  lots and lots of ICE.  which, even with grippy uggs and walking slowly... it's dangerous.  i could barely close the patio door today.  i kept slipping when i would push on it.

so basically, what i'm saying is...

          dress, scarf, earrings: ruche
          cardi: aerie
          tights: american apparel
          shoes: aldo
          necklace: gift
.....

mother nature, please let winter be winter.

peel it off...

i chopped my hair off...

just kidding!

somewhere amidst all these layers, my bum is hiding...

cardi, skirt, floral pins: ruche, blouse: melissa's (ruche), shoes: aldo, infinity scarf: ae, necklace & bracelet: tiffany's

.....

could i BE wearing any more clothes??
i'm basically in love with layering, if you haven't noticed. teeheehee

as i'm sure you can tell, i had a hair appointment last night.  i know, it's obvious every time i have one, because something is always different.  my bangs are shorter, due to the fact that i'm terrible at trimming them, and i wanted them to be a decent length for next weekend.  and my ombre bottom is a bit darker.  which i love.  i've been going a shade darker for the past few times, slowly getting braver and getting it smack on this time!

also, i received me double velvet bow from red velvet yesterday!  had a bit of an issue getting it to stay in my fine hair, but after a helpful email from sweet emma, i got it!  it looks yellow in these pics, but it's just the lighting.  it's a nice cream, perfect with my green dress for christmas eve!! (my favourite day of the year).

happy wednesday!

a veg weekend...

cape & lace dolman top under: ruche, jeans: ae, boots: aldo

.....

so basically, this weekend is a 100% 'me' weekend. last night i went for my run on the treadmill while watching big bang theory, took a nice relaxing bubble bath, tossed on some lululemons, grabbed a glass of wine (my last bottle from the konzelmann, i may cry), had the christmas lights all on, a nice pellet stove fire, and watch crazy stupid love. perfect veg night.

have you seen crazy stupid love? if not, be prepared to drool. i thought i loved ryan gosling in the notebook. really, i did. and still do. but the corny dirty dancing scene? wow. it's no wonder i'm single, i don't think it's possible for guys to compare to these romantic movies that leave me wanting THAT. i keep thinking i can be swept off my feet with the right broom, but i think i might be holding out for ryan gosling's broom.

if you want to see the clip i'm referring to, here it is:

on another note, i went on a hunt today for a gold tree topper. while i was unsuccessful, i did find some red ornaments to fill the bare spots in my tree. as well as a few records. i'll share more on my current record craze another time. but don't be fooled, no i did not wear heals while out shopping. today's outfit post was actually my casual friday work outfit. did i mention i feel like sherlock holmes in this cape? give me a deerstalker cap and a magnifying glass and i'd be all set!

happy weekend!
may yours be filled with vegginess and ryan gosling as well.

:)
